Disability Pride Month is in full swing, and the SIC team is as busy as ever this sunny July with events, webinars, and more!
Whether you’ve been celebrating your disability for a while or this is your first Disability Pride Month, we have a range of events going on for you to come along to.
In the spirit of accessibility, all of our events are completely free and will have captions and post-event minutes available after it’s finished. If you want to attend and have further access requirements, please let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

HR and Recruitment Webinar

Meet our panelists:
Nikki Adebiyi (she/her) is the Founder and Director of Bounce Black, a social enterprise championing the wellbeing and workplace needs of Black professionals.
Francesca Macauley (she/her) started her career in contract recruitment at Randstad in 2008 specialising in finance and more recently, AI and Data. As Co-Founder of Autimatic UK, Francesca is motivated by her own family experience and is passionate about empowering autistic people who struggle to get into, or remain in, the workplace.
Robin Christopherson MBE (he/him) is Head of Digital Inclusion at AbilityNet and is a leading light in the global community of accessibility and digital inclusion specialists. Robin’s own experience of sight-loss gives him a first-hand experience of the power of digital tech to transform people’s lives.

This free online webinar is geared at Disabled and Neurodivergent school, college, and university leavers looking to take their first step on the career ladder.
Even if you’re not at the stage where you’ll be applying for jobs this year, this webinar could be an excellent opportunity to get you thinking about internships and potential opportunities while you’re still studying. We’ve gathered together a panel of Disabled and Neurodivergent individuals at various stages of their own careers to share their journeys and experiences so far.
We’ll also chat about:
gaining work experience;
developing your first CV;
and finding accessible routes into employment.
Think of this as a practical, informal session to help prepare you for finding your first job.
Meet our panelists:
Pippa Stacey (she/her) is a disabled writer, speaker, influencer, and a communication consultant in the charity sector, with a particular interest in inclusive education and employment for people with chronic illnesses like her own.
Nikki Adebiyi (she/her) is a dedicated advocate for mental health and social justice, fuelled by her personal journey of triumph over adversity while building a career. As Founder of Bounce Black, she leads initiatives to support the workplace and wellbeing needs of Black professionals.
Sami Dar (he/him) is the Co-founder of 10,000 Able Interns, a non-profit program that provides internships to students with disabilities and long-term health conditions in the UK. After graduating from the University of Warwick in 2021, Sami began working on the initiative, which has provided 500 internships to Disabled students since its inception.
Emily Wood is a neurodivergent creative based in York, working as a support worker with Send It To Alex, SIC’s Marketing and Operations lead, and a writer. She has a passion for advocacy, especially for the rights of disabled people, LGBT+ people, and women.
Human Library at Birmingham Disability Festival

Our CEO Alice is going to be a human book in the Birmingham Disability Festival’s library, offering advice and conversation based on her plethora of lived experience and expertise in career knowledge as a disabled, chronically ill professional.
It's FREE to attend, with loads of ways to get involved and good vibes all around. Whether you're an advocate, ally, or just curious, join us for a day of learning, entertainment, and meaningful connections in the heart of Birmingham's disability community.
